Kansai Helios claimed the opening game of their ABA League 2 quarterfinal playoff series against Vojvodina mts, earning an 87-76 victory in Novi Sad. The series is played in a best-of-three format, with the second game scheduled for March 25 in Domžale and a possible third game on April 1 back in Novi Sad.
The visiting side built a commanding lead early, closing the first quarter with a 20-point advantage. Their performance became less consistent in the middle stages, and Vojvodina mts briefly gained the upper hand late in the third quarter and early in the fourth, taking a 68-67 lead.
Critical plays in the closing minutes allowed Kansai Helios to pull away once again. With roughly 90 seconds remaining, they established an 11-point cushion at 83-72, securing the win.
Lenart Sirc led the scoring for Kansai Helios with 27 points and added 11 rebounds. Alen Malovčić and Mark Morano Mahmutovič each contributed 17 points, with Malovčić also collecting ten rebounds.
