The NLB ABA League 2 tips off today!

The 2024/2025 NLB ABA League 2 regular season is about to get underway. This season will be played under a new competition system, with sixteen (16) teams divided into four (4) Regular Season Groups (A, B, C, D), each consisting of four (4) clubs. The top two teams in each group will advance to the top 8 where teams will play another 6 games (home and away) for a spot in the semi-finals. 

This year there are 5 new teams that did not participate in the second flight of regional basketball, Teodo, Bosna Visit Sarajevo, Ilirija, Vršac Meridianbet, and Rabotnički Skopje are the new faces this season. 

2024/25 NLB ABA League 2 Round 1, Group A, Tuesday, 24 September 2024:
MZT SKOPJE AERODROM - TEODO TIVAT

MZT Skopje Aerodrom looks to return to the top level of regional basketball as they start their 2024/25 NLB ABA League 2 campaign in Group A against Cedevita Junior, Teodo Tivat, and Kansai Helios. Last season, MZT Skopje Aerodrom was stopped in the semi-finals against Spartak Office Shoes who went on to win the ABA League 2 crown. Teodo Tivat makes their return to the NLB ABA League 2 for the first time since the 2017/18 season, they finished that season with a 9-13 record.

CEDEVITA JUNIOR - KANSAI HELIOS

Cedevita Junior and Kansai Helios Domžale are set to embark on another NLB ABA League 2 journey. Last season Cedevita Junior made their debut in the NLB ABA League 2, they finished the season with a 4-9 record. This year Cedevita Junior added some interesting pieces, they added talented young prospects like Niko Šare and Luka Krajnović while tossing in experienced players like Josip Sobin and Mislav Brzoja, it will be exciting to see what they will show on the court this season. Kansai Helios, 2023 finalists, return to the regional league after they just squeezed into the playoffs last season with a 6-7 season record. Last year Kansai Helios was stopped in the quarterfinals against soon-to-be champions Spartak Office Shoes. Club legend, Blaž Mahkovič, is back for another season with the team, while they added players like Jan Kosi.

VOJVODINA MTS - BOSNA VISIT SARAJEVO

Where? Vojvodina Sports center, Novi sad

Group B will be opened up with what could be called the game of the week as last season’s finalists, Vojvodina, host the ambitious team from Bosna Visit Sarajevo. Last year Vojvodina mts made it to the finals but suffered a close loss to Spartak Office Shoes. Vojvodina mts certainly has the same ambitions as last season, win the trophy. Vojvodina mts kept many players from last year's team while adding players with great ABA League experience like Filip Rebrača and Marko Jagodić-Kuridža. Bosna Visit Sarajevo makes a return to  NLB ABA League 2 regular season for the first time since the 2017/18 season. Last year Bosna Visit Sarajevo had hopes to rejoin the NLB ABA League 2 but was unable to pass the qualifiers.

RABOTNIČKI SKOPJE - SUTJESKA ELEKTROPRIVREDA

The last game of the week sees newcomers Rabotnički Skopje take on Sutjeska Elektroprivreda. Rabotnički Skopje returns to the second division of the regional league for the first time since the 2020/2021 season. Sutjeska Elektroprivreda seems like a stronger team than last season, this summer they added Dragan Bajić as their head coach who had historic results for Igokea m:tel in the AdmiralBet ABA League and the FIBA Champions League.
