Slovan Bratislava, Bratislava
Beginnings
BEGINNINGS Slovan’s roots date back to 1940, when it was established as a club featuring both men's and women's sections. The club adopted the name Slovan in 1953. In 1963, a new men's club named TJ Slovnaft Bratislava was founded in the capital; it was later renamed TJ Internacionál Bratislava. In 1972, the men's squad from the original Slovan club merged into TJ Internacionál. This union of two Bratislava basketball traditions created a team that went on to experience the most successful era in its history—spanning the late 1970s and the first half of the 1980s. The Slovan brand did not return to the men's basketball scene until 2025, when the Inter team was rebranded as BC Slovan Bratislava.Glory Days
GLORY DAYS In the 1978/79, 1979/80, 1982/83, and 1984/85 seasons, TJ Internacionál won the Czechoslovak championship title and regularly competed in European cup tournaments against the best teams on the continent. In 1985, the Czechoslovak team won the silver medal at EuroBasket. Several players from the Bratislava club were key members of the national team, including the legendary duo Stanislav Kropilák and Peter Rajniak. Inter won another title—its first in the era of independence—in 1996. Further titles followed in the new millennium, as the Bratislava club returned to European cup competitions after a "restart."Club Information
