Milija Vojinović: “We are about to watch some top-level basketball”
Ahead of the peak of the NLB ABA League 2 season, the Playoffs Tournament in Domžale, a press conference, attended by ABA League j.t.d. Sports Director Milija Vojinović, Helios Suns General Manager Matevž Zupančič and Domžale Municipality Mayor Renata Kosec, was held in Domžale Sports Hall.

After 13 Rounds of the NLB ABA League 2 Regular Season, only 7 games remain, which will determine the outcome of the season for the best 8 teams of the competition for the 2022/23 season. At the Playoffs Tournament in Domžale, the tournament hosts Helios Suns, Krka, Podgorica, Borac WWIN, Široki, Zlatibor, Sutjeska and Pelister-Bitola will battle for the trophy.
Ahead of the Quarterfinals, which will take place on Wednesday, 12 April in Domžale, ABA League j.t.d. Sports Director Milija Vojinović, Helios Suns General Manager Matevž Zupančič and Domžale Municipality Mayor Renata Kosec have shared their expectations.
Milija Vojinović, ABA League j.t.d. Sports Director:
“NLB ABA League 2 made a big step forward regarding its popularity over the past few years. After 91 games there are 7 more interesting to come. Helios Suns have earned the right to organize the Final Tournament, as they have won the first place in the Regular Season. I wish to thank the club to have accepted our proposal. The organization is on the top level and I am convinced, that all of us will be able to enjoy the excellent basketball. The Champions will earn themself a right to participate in the elite AdmiralBet ABA League and the Finalists will have a chance to get a spot in the AdmiralBet ABA League through Qualifiers.”
Renata Kosec, MSc, Mayor of Domžale Municipality:
“We are extremely happy that Domžale will be hosting the sporting event on a top level after a while. In Domžale, we are developing sporting infrastructure, but despite that, we haven’t been able to get a chance to organize such an even since 2012. Together with the management of the club, we have supported the idea. We are striving towards becoming a true sporting municipality. Domžale are ready for the tournament, we are cheering for everyone, especially for our home team. Domžale are also celebrating a holiday of municipality and it will go well together with the basketball festival, that is coming up these days.”
Matevž Zupančič, Helios Suns General Manager:
“I am honoured that the club got a chance to organize this final tournament. We have not been planning it, and we take it as a prize for excellent results at the international level, which we have been achieving for two seasons in a row. In case we haven’t accepted the organization, many people could ask themselves, why we are competing at all. NLB ABA League 2 is an excellent platform for the development of young players, which is one of the key goals of our club. It is a competition with excellent level of organization, that gained recognition over the past years and became attractive from the marketing point of view. The league gained even more importance thanks to the fact that only through this competition a club can secure itself a spot in the AdmiralBet ABA League. We will not give any predictions ahead of the outnament, since we are well aware of the fact, that the current system allows upsets, but I believe that we, the Suns, can go far. In the Quarter-final game, we are promising to fight on court and we are also preparing lots of side events, so we really hope that the hall would be full.”
